The Basic Free Site plan provides you with hosting and a free website that is built for your church using your church’s information.  The website is created on our server with one of our templates before it goes live.  The site is hosted by RoserNet Website Services which is Churches.Hosting parent company.  With this plan, your church can have up to ten email accounts with your domain name for a much more polished presentation and plenty of server space for sermons. Since the site is hosted by RoserNet, we support any server and website development issues for you.

The way that this plan works is that we create a RoserNet hosting account for you and provide you with login information.  If we register your new domain name, it will already point to your RoserNet Hosting area where your site will be.

If you have a current website, the  domain name will point to your old site until the new one is finished which is when we will either transfer your domain name registrar or contact your current registrar to change the nameservers to RoserNet which is where your website will be.  Usually within one day, the changes will take effect and your domain name will point to your new website on your RoserNet hosting account.

In both cases, we can work on the website without the public knowing about the new site.

When the site is approved we will make the domain name changes if necessary and then submit your website information to the Google and Bing search engines making your church easier to find on the web.

You or staff members email us text and images that you want on the site and possibly where on the site that you want it. We will then update the site as soon as possible and return the email notifying you that the information has been updated. You or the staff can still update pages or the calendar whenever you desire. You are not ever locked out of the site. Any updates that you do are not counted as one of ours.

*Unfortunately, unused page updates do not rollover into the next month. If for some reason you need more than your 10 page updates, extra updates over the plan limit are $2.00 each billed separately. If you find that you consistently need more updates, please contact us to upgrade your plan.

What is considered a page update.

A page update is anytime that a file is opened, changed and saved on the website. Some examples are adding a sermon and link to the sermon page, adding a calendar event or updating some contact info.

Web pages are a collection of files that are displayed together. Sometimes the web page can be one file but quite often, it consists of many separate files that display together. A very simple example is that often times the top of the page normally known as the header is one file, the main body of a page is another file as well as the footer of the page. The page that displays all of the files at once is also another file which contains a command to display he header file, then display the body file which displays an image file and finally display the footer file. Most pages typically require at least five different files. Depending on the content management system used the files are called images, modules, articles, widgets, templates etc…

Most files for a website rarely need changed. Churches usually have very basic updates. Besides adding sermons and calendar events, needs may be changing a picture on the home page, changing staff information, or changing committee information. Another common need is creating a special event page such as a Christmas Eve Service or fundraiser which may require some images so it would require more than one update.

It should be noted that images are also files so if we have to change an image size, it is also considered a page update. We don’t recommend a large number of photo albums that must be updated because quite often the images have to be resized to a small size as well as a large size so a 20 picture photo album would be considered 41 page updates: 20 images times 2 plus putting them and the link on the page. We recommend using Facebook for photo albums because we can create a link on a page (one update) which points to the Facebook album. The viewer does not need to be a Facebook member to view the album. Facebook allows any size pictures to be uploaded and many more people are comfortable uploading images to Facebook.
